One 14-year-old youth was found dead just days after being wrongly accused of stealing the cremated remains of a dead infant during a burglary, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Tragic Discovery

The young boy's mother and father discovered his remains in his room at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.

False Accusations Start

The inquest heard how his mother got a communication on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her child. The message stated: "Tell him thanks for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony presented to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the news, asserting her infant's remains had been stolen in a break-in - a claim which was false.

Police Inquiry

An investigation report from authorities later determined the alleged break-in victim had "provided false information" and "it now appears that the items was not taken in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged taken remains generated social media comments, and although Kai was not identified in the posts, his mother said people "understood it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she said.

Mental Health Effect

She explained that her son had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' opinions really mattered to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she commented, "particularly when this was untrue".

The teenager was arrested at home, but no evidence was discovered. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in touch, the inquest heard, but had failed to reached out to the family by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Anxiety

His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could feel like days".

When she spoke to him about the supposed burglary, she said her son informed her he had gone into the house because the woman who resided there had said he could use the bathroom whenever he needed, but denied taking anything.

Digital Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being harassed digitally after the allegations.

The inquest learned that a young adult encouraged the teenager to end his life.

She had no worries on the night before he passed away, describing how she had heard him "laughing and joking".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his concerns", she said, adding that he could not stand to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

School Response

The hearing heard from educational personnel at the local secondary school.

On 8 November, she "heard some boys talking that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I heard".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the discussion, the staff member said she rang the family's family landline and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.

The court learned his parents said they never got that communication.

Formal Finding

Lead investigator told the hearing he would await reports regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future fatalities report.

Providing a descriptive conclusion, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old child.

"Probably falsehoods were afterwards embellished and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.

"On 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and after his interview he was freed while investigations proceeded."

The coroner determined: "There is no evidence that the acts or omissions of any agency led to or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal act it is not possible to discern his purpose."
