Heroic Train Staff Member Receives Severe Wounds During Mass Stabbing Incident on Express Service

A brave railway staff member who stepped in to save passengers during a mass knife incident on a high-speed train has suffered critical wounds, police stated on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Event

CCTV footage reportedly shows the staff member trying to stop the attacker as the train traveled between Peterborough and Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. Witnesses recounted a terrifying 14-minute period after the train left Peterborough, with injured passengers running through carriages.

The suspect, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, remains in detention for interrogation. Authorities announced a significant event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Crisis Response and Consequences

The incident on the weekend led to 11 people being cared for in medical facilities after the train made an unscheduled stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Several people have since been discharged from hospital.

A witness recorded the suspect waving a big knife and being subdued with a stun device as he faced police on the platform. He was reportedly heard shouting, "Kill me, kill me."

“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. We are thinking of the victims and their families – particularly the brave member of train personnel whose relatives are being assisted by trained personnel,” said a high-ranking police official.

Union Reaction and Calls for Action

Rail associations were swift to praise staff and demand increased action. One union official said he would be “requesting urgent meetings with government, train companies and police to guarantee that we have the best available support, tools and effective procedures in operation”.

A different union leader encouraged the rail company and government “to act quickly to examine safety, to support the affected workers, and to ensure nothing like this happens again”.

Driver Praised for Quick Thinking

The train driver who stopped the train at Huntingdon was reported as being “deeply affected” but “good”, and has been praised by union officials for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“He didn’t stop the service in the middle of two stops where it’s obviously challenging for the emergency services to access, but he continued going until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the response was pretty much waiting,” stated a union official.

Further Information

Police said they got the initial emergency calls at 7:39 pm, and the train was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

An witness recounted at first thinking if the situation was a holiday prank, but soon understood from people's expressions that it was real.

Authorities have confirmed there is nothing to indicate the incident was a terror-related attack and have requested the community to come forward with any additional details.

Rail operations on the affected route are anticipated to have delays until the following day, with travelers advised to defer their journeys where possible.
